Biography
TpTom Penn (Curzon) is a London-based actor, clown, multi-instrumentalist, film composer and workshop facilitator. After graduating from the University of Oxford with a BA in English Literature, he gained a theatrical training at École Philippe Gaulier. He is a highly physical performer and a gifted improviser who has won awards and garnered 5* reviews for his work as a clown.
As a composer Tom has recently completed the score for upcoming BBC Comedy Short, Quiet Life, dir. Ruth Pickett, and has started working on the score for Sam Nicoresti's Comedy Special, Wokeflake. In 2023, Tom wrote the score for The Thelma's Charlie Hartill award-winning play Santi and Naz. He has written scores for numerous short-films and recently the feature film Bored Games (2023) dir. Joel Stern. He has released two records Solar (2022) and For Thomas (2020) available to stream on Spotify and his music has been heard at Cannes Film Festival, the British Film Institute and Bolton Film Festival. Tom is currently touring as a keyboard and bass-player in Oedipus Electronica with critically acclaimed Gig-Theatre phenomenon, Pecho Mama. In there 5-star review of the show, Everything Theatre said that "their mix of electronics and increasingly ingenious double bass techniques are such an asset. It’s tempting to just watch them throughout. The music is gripping and all-encompassing." In the spring Tom will begin work with Mella Faye and Emily Levy on Me Without You (supported by Arts Council England and Snape Maltings), performing amongst a world-class ensemble of musicians, actors, dancers and visual artists. Do Not Go Far, co-written and directed by Fred Wienand, is a solo-theatre piece in development with support from OSO Arts Centre and St. Mary's University. Tom's new solo clown show Al Dente enjoyed a sell-out Work In Progress showing at the Hen and Chickens in February. Tom facilitates workshops and has taught at several leading Drama Schools in London, including St. Mary's University Twickenham, Drama Studio London and Tring School for the Performing Arts. He is currently the clowning tutor on the MA at Arts Ed. |
